We’ve talked about a whole bunch of different methods of mining gold up to this point and have mentioned the various types of machinery involved. But that’s not the whole story. There are lots of other accessories you will want if you are going to maximize your efficiency and safety when mining gold. There’s a lot of gold mining equipment to consider, so let’s get started.
For big time mining jobs, we are obviously going to need large drills, bucket lifts, dump trucks, bulldozers, and more. This is for the large companies digging caves and mines and shafts. I’m not really going to focus on that because it’s really outside of the scope of what we as individuals will probably be doing. Even a small team can’t get the funds together for all of that.
Individual Gold Mining Equipment
Most of us will be gold mining with ourselves or a few others. So we will most likely be sticking to smaller equipment such as gold pans, but we may even possibly use some of these smaller gold dredges that are at now.
They sell two foot to six foot dredges now, which is pretty cool, but I don’t think you can just go around dredging any public river or stream so be careful and check what the law is in the area first.
You’ll want to consider exactly what size pump you’ll be wanting to power your dredge. You’ll be sucking up soil from the bottom of the stream like a vacuum cleaner. I’ve seen 2.5 horsepower all the way up to 9 horsepower pumps. You may also consider a pull-behind trommel wash plant. Most of these big boy machines have been downsized and are available to those who really want to get involved in gold mining equipment.
These smaller items even include sluices of all kinds of sizes and shapes and differing screens for filter sizes. Heck, if you are really serious about your gold, there are even smelters out there you can buy. A smelting kit would allow you to turn your flakes into nuggets or coins or bars! How cool is that?
Gold Mining Equipment for Safety
I know this goes without saying, but then again, people are always getting hurt so let me reiterate. Please use gloves, safety glasses, and even a hardhat if necessary. There is absolutely no reason to get hurt in this endeavor so please protect yourself! There is plenty of safety gold mining equipment out there so use it!
